Biography
Born in Tunis, Nadia RAÏS graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Tunis, where she earned a Master’s degree in Arts and Techniques.
Director of five animated short films, she has gradually established herself as a distinctive voice in Tunisian animation cinema. Her films have been selected at numerous international festivals, notably the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and have been broadcast on TV5 Monde and the BBC.
Her work has recently been featured in dedicated screenings at the Forum des Images in Paris as part of Tout’Anim, as well as at the Tunisian Cinematheque.
Alongside her filmmaking practice, Nadia Raïs develops a visual arts practice that informs and enriches her cinematic universe. She was an artist-in-residence at the Cité internationale des Arts in Paris (2012–2013). Her works are currently held in the collections of the Tunisian Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the Centre Culturel International de Hammamet “Dar Sebastian,” and the international Imago Mundi collection (Luciano Benetton), as well as in several private collections.
Her work explores the tensions between animated image and materiality, in an ongoing dialogue between visual arts and narrative.
